Books in Good Standing

Hello, I’m Sam Bates. I have been in the nonprofit compliance industry for a decade and have worked extensively on the IRS Form 990, various state registrations, and have helped more nonprofits balance their financials than I can count. I am uniquely positioned to handle your financial records.

Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of volunteer-run groups and community organizations. That experience has given me a practical understanding of how real nonprofits operate–whether it is a humble bake sale or a black-tie gala, from the small school supply purchase to the giant scoreboard installation, I’m familiar with every form of income and expense. I’m comfortable working with organizations whose financial activity might look unusual at first glance, because I understand the context behind it.

My background in nonprofit compliance allows me to recognize the financial details that matter at reporting time. I pay attention to areas that often create issues later, such as large donations, sponsorship arrangements, reimbursements, and cash handling practices. While I don’t provide legal or tax determinations, I help ensure your records clearly reflect what happened so your tax preparer or CPA has accurate, organized information to work with.

I understand the high turnover of volunteer run organizations. I believe most volunteers are doing their best with the time they have. At the same time, good financial oversight protects both the organization and the people serving it. My role is to provide that steady, third-party structure so your financial records stay accurate, transparent, and ready for reporting. I believe that my experience in preparing 990s for booster clubs and small nonprofits makes me uniquely qualified to help you. Click here to learn about my approach.
